A new law was passed last December indicating that all passengers riding a pump boat must wear a life jacket for safety. Many people disregard this law because they feel safe in the boat and nothing has ever happened that would cause worry. "It will ruin my hair or it's too hot or I'm an excellent swimmer, I can take care of myself" are some of the comments I hear every time I ride the boat. I do however wear it all the time.
This evening a pump boat was upturned by a vortex that came from nowhere. Those that were wearing the life jacket simply floated. Those that did not nearly drowned. Thankfully the coast guard reacted fast enough to save everybody.Many were hurt but thankfully none perished.
I wish I can say that people have changed their outlook about the use of life jackets but the fact is it will continue to be ignored much like how people see Jesus, unnecessary and insignificant until the day of reckoning.
