Before leaving Vancouver, my wife and I decided that we are going to go to the mission field as "tentmakers" .The tentmaker ministry exists for God’s glory to create self-sustaining, gospel-centered movements to change cities. We figured we can open up a resort in this island and use the income to establish, strengthen and fund different ministries that is focused on children. I am here today to gather information on this land that is "flowing with milk and honey".
I stayed at one of the resort and had a chat with one of the staff. She told me that she was being underpayed and exploited by the owner and that there is nothing she can do. She needed the job. I had a conversation with the japanese owner and he relayed to me that "they need him more than he needs them". Unfortunately this is a labour practice that being ignored by the local government so long as these businesses are paying taxes and bringing in money.
A good portion of the businesses here are owned by internationals with little regards for the local community. For such a place that brings in a lot of tourism dollars there seems to be far less concerns toward the needs of the local people. ""It's not personal, it's just business", as what Donald Trump would say.
There is a big drop out rate in the public schools. Many children are undernourished, yet in light of it people are still hopeful for what tomorrow may bring. The harvest is definitely here but there are "giants" in the land.
I roamed and asked about the possibility of buying a land in this area. This will be a hard task and GOD would have to open doors for me and lead me each step of the way.I'm praying real hard.
I gathered whatever information I needed and returned back to Canada.
