When things go bad

I came back from Cebu on Monday late afternoon, it was a crazy 37C stifling hot weather.I was so tired that I slept at 5pm only to be awaken by a phone call at 6:30 am Tuesday indicating that I have to go to Kalibo for a meeting ASAP. I made it to Kalibo on record time and everything went very well. The paperwork are just about done and we are planning to start construction by next week. That was a good news.

I got back to Caticlan at 4:30 pm and found out that a storm is just passing by and that they have to terminate boat services to Boracay due to high waves.Bad news. They are hoping that the waves would die down by 10pm and they can bring some boats to bring us to the island.Good news. There were over 300 people stranded in the jetty port.

They told us that the storm is escalating and there will not any boat services for the next two days.Bad news. All the hotels in the area have now been filled by the tourists and there are no other options for a bed except the chairs and the floors in the Cagban jetty station.Really bad news. Funny enough, people were taking it in stride, accepting this as how life is sometimes ,somewhat messy, tiresome, inconvenient and even thankful that they are not in a small boat crossing the ocean.People are still smiling and cracking jokes.Men giving their seats to the ladies. This is refreshing.

There were a number of families with children that were in such need at that time.I sought, bought and gave everything that I can to relieve hungry little tummies. I wish I had blankets to give away.

Power went off, rain fell harder and water started seeping in the building and people just shrugged it off.It is a great lesson in flexibility and calmness during tough situations. To be in a rough condition and still be found being neighborly, loving, laughing and being thankful is a trait that I'd love to embody. It is a godly attitude.

Got up at 6:30am Wednesday and took the bus to Kalibo so that I can get a hotel room and get a decent sleep. Fatigue is starting to get the best of me and I'm starting to feel ill. Got a room in Kalibo and slept most of the time.

Got up at Thursday morning and found out that the storm is gone and that the boat service to Boracay is up and running.Good news.Went to the bus station and was told that the buses are not running for a while because of a landslide due to the storm. I kept telling myself that maybe this is a sign from GOD for me to take a 4 hour bus ride to Iloilo and watch the Transformer's movie.Even I would not buy that dumb idea.Talk about twisting God's arm.I am beat and tired and seriously, I just want to go home. I need to get well.

Eventually the bus started moving and off I went home to my little island and nursed myself to health for the last two days.

It is so easy to get distressed when things doesn't go our way. We have this mentality of "I want it, I want it now, and If I cannot have it, I want my money back."There are so many things in this world that we cannot control, yet we furiously try,and when we fail we blame God.It is how we respond to the situations and allowing God to be God that ultimately makes the difference. GOD is still good regardless of any situations. And don't forget to smile.
