Woke up this morning and heard my brother John's voice. They just came home from Indonesia visiting their eldest daughter.Storm "Ondoy" also came in this morning and is dropping bucket loads lot of rain along the way. The water along the house is sharply increasing and the roads are now calf deep.Fortunately we are on high elevation and don't think that the water will get inside the house. News about this storm is starting to cause some panic.Highways are now shut down due to high flood levels and many cars are being abandoned. People in some communities are now heading towards their rooftops due to flash floods.
TV News are coming in fast about the devastation this storm has brought. Mass of people are stuck at the airport and at public rail system. Malls and schools are quickly shutting down but the folks cannot go home due to flood. Inhabitants living by the riversides are now dealing with six feet of water in less that 3 hours, some are being swiped by the strong current. Some of the schools are now 2 stories underwater. This is the worst flood in over 40 years and the and city is ill equipped to deal with such calamity. Military is now being deployed to help out but needing boats to get to the devastated area. Several trucking businesses are trying to evacuate people out of their rooftops. About 40 % of the greater manila area was hit by flood.
One army personnel was able to save at least 23 people before he succumbed to the power of the rushing flood.Such a truly heroic act of giving oneself for the sake of others.
