Mrs. Valeda Samuelson was an American missionary that I used to hang around with when I was 12. She used to take me to her trips inside the shanty houses in Manila where she taught kids bible stories, songs, games, gave out candies and hugs. Valeda spoke fluent Tagalog and was often found hanging around and chatting with the local folks. She and her husband Ken have such a deep love for Filipinos that they would search for them wherever they go. They spent time in Israel to minister to the Filipinos there. Their mission seemed to be " Go into all the world and find the Filipinos and minister to them."Ken has now gone home to be with the LORD and Valeda is still going strong in her ripe age of 89. She is planning to go to the Philippines this December for 3 months. I am so looking forward in seeing her again.
I had a chat with her today and she encouraged me to find these couple that she knows that resides here in Boracay and to minister to them. Having no phone number to find these folks would not be an easy task, however, if it's important enough for Valeda I sure will give it a high priority.
I believe that her "investment"in me when she used to take me around carries a big part on what I am doing right now. She showed me that you don't need to be spectacular, you just need to be there and allow GOD to be spectacular. To those people that spends time with my kids in Sunday school classes , in preschool, in kinder, in their homes, or taking them out and abouts, I thank you so much.You are literally "investing" in their lives. I also encourage you folks to spend time with kids, yours and others.It's a long term investment that pays BIG in GOD's kingdom.
