A mother's heart

Teresa is a lady that sells fruits and eggs along the side of the street. I've seen her there early in the morning and also very late at night. I bought some mangoes so that I can chat with her.

She has three kids and no husband. She is at her stall for about 18 hours/day selling her foodstuff. She makes enough to provide for her kids but not enough to include her needs. She would often sacrifice her food for her kids. She wants them to have an education so she works tirelessly. She showed me some pictures of her kids with pride. "If it takes 24 hours to make money for my kids, this will I do because they are mine",she said. I thanked her for her time and for the green mangoes. I had a "lump" on my throat and a tear in my eyes when I left her. I will be eating a lot of green mangoes and a lot of "balut".
